BOWLERS from across the area competed in the open mixed pairs event at Peak Dale Bowling Club recently, with keen competition throughout and many close matches.

In the quarter-finals, Mary Timmins and Phil Walker, of Chapel-en-le-Frith, were drawn against Callum Briddon and Chris Eaton, two of Peak Dale’s up-and-coming junior bowlers, and it was the latter who came out on top, winning 21-16.

Beryl Sidebotham and Kenny Jones versus Richard and Lisa Briddon was another hard-fought match, with the Briddon pairing victorious.

Mary Bennett and Dave Dyson lost to Chesterfield’s county-standard bowlers Ian and Heather Johnson, while Jackie Buxton and Paul Walton, of Chapel-en-le-Frith, beat Hazel and Dennis Clark, of Buxton Park.

Progressing to the final were the Briddon and Johnson pairings, winning their semi-final matches against Briddon/Eaton and Buxton/Walton respectively.

In the final, it proved a game to far for the Briddons - Lisa in only her first season of bowling and first appearance in a major competition final - and the Johnson pairing eventually won 21-12.
