The first fell race of 2014 took place last weekend, with nine Buxton AC members taking part in the Lambs Longer Leg.
The 3.1-mile event, part of the Hayfield Series, starts from the Lamb Inn on Hayfield/Chinley Road and involves almost a thousand feet of climbing.
First home for the club was Jason Bennett, who crossed the line in 26th place.
Bennett was followed by Pete Bailey (51st), Aleks Kashefi (55th), Richard Bouglas (63rd), Jo Bednall (67th), Alfie Bailey (79th), Dave Forshaw (97th), Simon Moorhouse (99th) and Bev Golden (104th).
• Elsewhere, club runners took part in two of the nationwide Parkruns last Saturday.
At Congleton, Alfie Bailey led the pack home in 21.33, followed by father Pete in 22.10 and Sheila Bradley 23.09 (first female over-55).
At Marple, Steve Claye finished in 21.50 to ensure he was the quickest male over-55.
• At the Derbyshire Cross Country Championships recently, held at Heanor’s Shipley Park, in the under-11 boys’ race, Euan Freeman finished in fifth place, with Matthew Frewer and Alexander Opelt eighth and 18th respectively.
Hannah Baker was the sole under-13 girl to compete, and she came home in ninth.
The under-15 boys’ event saw two Buxton runners take part – Steven Mellor was 15th and Rhys Bowen was 16th.
In the senior women’s race, Buxton finished third in the mixed teams event.
The quartet of Jo Bednall (17th), Sheila Bradley (22nd), Emma Havenhand (27th) and Amy Wadsworth (28th) ensured a top-three finish for the side.
Also running in the senior women’s event were Cris Milton (29th), Angela Bent (32nd), and Bev Golden (35th).
In the 10K men’s race, Rob White was first of eight Buxton runners home in 16th position.
He was followed by Mark Pursell (38th), Sol Clark (42nd), Frank Golden (75th), Pete Bailey (79th), Huw Bowen (94th), Chris Bent (100th) and Martin Willey (101st).
