Buxton put in a magnificent performance against Mansfield and secured three valuable points in their fight against relegation, after a 5-3 win last weekend.

The Bucks were the better side from the off and kept their momentum going throughout the entire match.

Mansfield were caught napping at the start of the game, conceding a long corner from Buxton’s first attack. The ball found its way to Wilton who slapped in at the near post.

However, Mansfield quickly equalised, M Gee cutting through the Buxton defence to rifle home.

Buxton had further chances in the first half but it took until the second half for the game to really light up.

A reckless tackle from a Mansfield player presented Buxton with a short corner, which pinged about in the “D” before being poked home by L Saunders.

Again, Mansfield quickly got back on level terms when A Nixon slotted in to draw scores at 2-2.

Buxton then ran straight up the pitch and retook the lead, Curzon netting after fine work from Browett and Orritt.

However, in a recurring theme the lead lasted only for a few minutes as a poor mistake from Balderstone gifted J Davy a goal at the near post.

Buxton never gave up though and Wilton notched his second latching onto a cross from D Lowton.

Mansfield tried to get on level terms again but Pathe, Mather, Lomas and Ainscow performed heroically keeping the home team’s attacks at bay.

Buxton put the game to bed later on as Wilton was cynically fouled and Talbot expertly put away the penalty.

Buxton resume their league campaign in January.
