ICE HOCKEY fans have more to be excited about than just the start of another successful season for Sheffield Steelers this August.
The opening of the 2011/12 season marks the 20th anniversary of ice hockey for Sheffield Steelers and the team is launching this milestone anniversary year with a bit of pizzazz.
The club has invited Steelers ice hockey legends, including Ron Shudra and Mike Blaisdell, to return to the city for a festival of hockey.
On August 27, the Motorpoint Arena will play host to an exciting and exhilarating display of professional and amateur ice hockey, with opening games from younger teams including under-10s, under-12s and under-14s, followed by under-16s and under-18s.
Then, in a one-time reappearance on the rink, the Sheffield Steelers legends will take to the ice to play an exhibition game against their old enemy from years past, the Cardiff Devils legends, who will be celebrating their own 25th year anniversary.
To close the evening’s events, current elite league champions Sheffield Steelers will play a friendly against rivals Cardiff Devils. The match will be the first opportunity to see the Steelers team for the 2011/12 season play under the leadership of new player coach Ryan Finnerty.
Tickets are £5 for children, £20 for concessions, £25 for adult season ticket holders and £30 for adult non-season ticket holders. All prices will increase by £5 (with the exception of children’s tickets) if purchased on the day.
