Last Saturday afternoon saw the final fixture of the 2014 North Staffordshire Cross Country League take place at Westwood High School in Leek.

Buxton AC again fielded large teams in both the men’s and women’s races.

Another fine performance from under-17 runner Helen Thornhill saw her win both the day’s race and the league title.

Another series first-place was awarded to Steve Watson in the Vet-50 age group.

Meanwhile, Alfie Bailey (under-17) and Cris Milton (Vet-60) each took second place in their respective age groups.

Many Buxton members went on to complete a double weekend of racing by taking part in the inaugural Litton Christmas Cracker Fell Race, organised by Tideswell RC.

The 7.6-mile route was made even more challenging by conditions underfoot.

The top three finishers for Buxton were Bryan McKenna (35th), Mark Quince (40th) and Richard Bouglas (50th).

Meanwhile, at the Bolsover 10K Martin Willey claimed a new club Vet-70 record for the distance (52.28), to add to his recently acquired 5K record.

Jason Bennett was first Buxton finisher in 37.10, Vet-60 runner Angela Bent posted a fine time of 52.16 while race-walker Chris Bent completed the course in a time of 1.09.30.
