Gas Gas rider Rob starts off with a win

BRITISH Championship contender Craig Robinson was the first round winner in the Staffs Moorlands Summer Championship, held on Saturday at Hollinhurst Farm, Endon.

Robinson lost only two penalty points to finish 17 marks ahead of 2010 Moorlands Champion Iain Robinson and 31 ahead of former cycle trials national champion Danny Butler.

Section eight was very awkward up an angled slab of rock six foot high, and while Robinson made it look simple his Gas Gas team-mate failed to make the top on lap three to drop five marks. Butler used a different approach, using his cycle trials technique to only lose four points.

Phil Hulme scored a comfortable victory in the 50/50 class, losing only ten marks on a slightly easier course.

There was, however, a tie for second place resolved in favour of Chris Lear over Adrian Mellor using the countback system.

Kevin Stannard finished the clubmans class without dropping a point.

In second was Phil Coombes and third Carl Braddock on his trusty TY Yamaha.
