Ex-Olympic skippers hands out club awards

Buxton Swimming Club’s annual presentation night took place at Buxton & High Peak Golf Club last week,

Olympic swimmer Alan Rapley - captain of the GB team at the 1992 Atlanta Games and a former club member - presented awards and medals for winners at the club championships which took place in November, as well as annual trophies that are awarded by the club.

Amongst the winners on the night was 13-year-old Ben Prince who broke three club records at the club championships, including Rapley’s very own 100m Butterfly boys record which had stood since 1983.

Ben was also awarded the Male Club Member of the Year award.

Other gongs handed out on the night included a special award given to Abbie Wood who won two golds and two silvers at the European Youth Olympics in 2013.

Other awards: Club Member of the Year - Trish Longden; Best Newcomer - Louis Ecob; Female Swimmer of the Year - Chloe Foster; Male Swimmer of the Year - Tom Prince; Most Improved Girl - Eleanor Shaw; Most Improved Boy - Dan Allen; Club Endeavour Award - Jamie Beresford-Cook.
