Entries open for town’s triathlon

ENTRIES have opened for the 2012 Buxton Triathlon, which will take place on Sunday July 8.

The newly-refurbished Buxton Spa Pool will once again provide the starting point for a race that also gives competitors the chance to cycle in the beautiful Peak District and run around the spa town of Buxton.

Race Director Simon Hill said: “We hope to attract plenty of first-time triathletes. It’s a fantastic event and one that is geared to competitors of all standards. To anybody that has never taken part before, now is the time.”

The triathlon starts with a 400-metre swim in the heated indoor pool, followed by a 13-mile cycle ride and a three-mile run

Entries are welcome from individual and relay teams, with all competitors crossing the finish line receiving a race goody bag.

There will also be awards in age categories from 16 to 85-plus, and even novice category prizes for beginners.

Athletes can also use the Buxton Triathlon to fundraise for a charity of their choice, or for one of the event’s nominated charities: Leukaemia & Lymphoma Research, Epilepsy Research UK and the RNLI.
