The New Year will be marked by the Buxton Pavilion Gardens 5K event this Saturday, one week earlier than previously advertised.

The free event consists of a choice of one, two or three traffic-free laps around the Pavilion Gardens and is open to all ages and abilities.

There is no need to pre-enter or register and participants should congregate at the Fountain Street entrance to Broad Walk by 8.45am, ready for a 9am start.

Three Buxton runners joined over 100 competitors at the Lyme Park Parkrun on Boxing Day.

Nick Jones claimed ninth place in a time of 23.01 over the hilly 5K course. Meanwhile Alfie Bailey finished in 12th place with a time of 23.23, and dad Peter finished in 15th place in 24.20.

Richard Goff claimed a Parkrun personal best time of 22.22 at the waterlogged Pontypool event, finishing in 15th place out of over 90 runners.

Buxton AC is a friendly club which welcomes new members of all abilities. Details can be found on the club’s website and Facebook page.
