Damian Nicholls of Wilmslow RC ran his first Pavilion Gardens 5K last Saturday and came away with the prestigious first place.
Not only that, but the debutant also bettered the course record by a huge margin of 11 seconds.
Nicholls completed the course in 16 minutes, 10 seconds.
In second place was Buxton’s Supervet Steve Watson in 17.15, knocking 51 seconds from his 5K over-50 Club record.
Third place went to Jason Brunnock in 17.42, whilst the first female home, and first Junior Female, was Louisa Whittingham of Macclesfield Harriers in 21.03.
Jacob Buckley of Buxton AC was first Junior Male in 20.04.
Also on Saturday, Buxton AC’s Rob White competed in the Northern Athletics Track Championships held at Sportcity in Manchester and recorded 16.26 in the 5000m - just two seconds short of his PB in the distance.
In the Club’s annual Fletcher Cup race, one of the Club Championship events, held over a nine-mile course around the Goyt Valley, Richard Bouglas retained the trophy by being just 21 seconds outside his predicted finishing time.
Jo Bednall took the May Morrison Memorial Trophy for the fastest female veteran finisher. The race itself was a close finish with Ben Light in one hour and 48 seconds, just pipping Sol Clarke in 1.01.56.
• The annual Carnival Race will take place on Saturday July 12, and will once again follow the new four-mile route.
