Competitors in Buxton Cycling Club’s annual Open 10 Mile time trial last weekend were met with warm sunshine.
The local course up and down the Chapel-en-le-Frith bypass saw the close rivalry between the club’s fastest riders renewed.
Tom Thornely, who finished in 21:58, narrowly beat Mostyn Bullock who finished the course in 22:01.
So far this season, Bullock has had the upper hand having beaten Thornely into second place in three of the club’s Tuesday night time trials on the roads around Fairfield Common.
Bullock has already sewn up the scratch prize for the season-long competition in these events, now time will tell whether Tom can turn the tables for the second half of the season.
The overall winner of Saturday’s event was Cheshire rider Jack Green (VC St Raphael), who broke the event record with a scorching time of 20:36.
The women’s event was won by Alex Deck (Langsett Cycles Racing Team) in 23:57, which was also a new event record.
