A BUSY few weeks for Buxton Amateur Boxing Club saw Jon Pickering book his place in the final of the Derbyshire Junior Championships.
Fighting at under-66kg level, Pickering won a close semi-final contest against an opponent from Alfreton who skirted the ring, leaving the Buxton fighter holding centre and picking his shots.
This was a controlled and mature performance by Pickering, who held an additional gear or two in reserve, and the victory takes him through to the county final in Derby.
Adam Sircar was matched in Stoke over four two-minute rounds against a tall southpaw opponent from Burslem, J Rowey.
Sircar started the contest working to plan, throwing bunches of shots and pushing his opponent onto the back foot. This work was soon hampered by an awkward match of styles and a referee who was very eager to disrupt the action.
Sircar went into the final round needing a big finish to ensure victory and, as his left-handed opponent walked on to a big right hand, Sircar continued to push for the remainder of the round before being rewarded with a points victory.
Most recently, Jordan Bennett appeared on another Stoke show. This performance gave Bennett a good challenge, with his taller Macclesfield opponent pushing him close throughout, and the Buxton fighter was awarded a unanimous points win.
