BUXTON Amateur Boxing Club representatives have been awarded for excellent performances by Derbyshire Amateur Boxing Association at their annual county awards.
Brothers Irvine and Giann Magno were voted for prestigious ‘Best Contest of the Season’ and ‘Best Newcomer’ awards respectively.
Magno senior had been deservedly nominated for numerous awards and won the ‘Bout of the Season’ honour for dual thrillers with Spire Boxing Academy’s Chris Davey. The first contest, conducted over four brutal two-minute rounds, had secured the Derbyshire ABA Lightweight title for the Buxton boxer. In the much-anticipated rematch, the boxers met over three vicious three-minute rounds for the Derbyshire Lightweight Challenge Belt, with Davey coming through victorious.
Giann Magno was rewarded for an excellent first year of boxing by winning the ‘Newcomer of the Year’ award, together with the majority of his nine bouts. He will be entered into his first National Championships in January.
The Magno brothers, together with Buxton ABC’s boxing squad, will start their 2011/12 campaign in September, with new boxers Liam Burke and Jordan Bennett looking to debut.
