HAVING already earned his place at the Speedy Services UK Open in Bolton, PDC darts ace Dean Winstanley put in another solid performance at the event’s final two qualifiers in Birmingham last weekend.
Wins over Steve Maish (6-4), Darren Latham (6-4) and Brendan Dolan (6-2) on the Saturday set-up a fourth-round meeting for the Buxton-based player against Kevin Painter.
Despite being ahead against his Premier League opponent, Winstanley was eventually knocked out 6-5 to narrowly miss out on a quarter-final place.
The following day, Winstanley was knocked out in round three by Peter Wright (6-4), following wins over Keith Stephen (6-4) and Andrew Palmer (6-3).
In total, Winstanley added £1,000 to his ranking from the two days.
A team spokesman said: “I’m sure Dean will be disappointed that it wasn’t more, as he had darts to beat Painter on Saturday.
“The positive is Dean has not only qualified well for Bolton, he’s also making a big impression in the PDC with consistent runs on the floor.”
