Young members of Buxton AC celebrate their success throughout the 2013 season.

Buxton Athletics Club is celebrating after achieving its best season for several years in the North Staffordshire cross country league.

The final meeting of the season was held at Westwood High School in Leek last Saturday and Buxton AC came away with numerous awards.

In the Juniors, the under-13 boys team of Elliot Meylan, Will Tighe and Jacob Buckley came home with the first team trophy.

The Ladies Senior team meanwhile, finished second overall in Division Two, gaining promotion to the Premier League for next season.

In the veterans category, the Ladies were third overall for the series, whilst their male counterparts were also placed second in Division Two, thus gaining promotion to the top tier.

Individual awards went to Steve Watson, who fought hard all season to gain first male vet (over 45), while Sheila Bradley topped the female (over 55) category.

The races on the day produced some fine performances, with pride of place going to Simon Coldrick making his debut for the Club and finishing in an impressive fifth place in the senior men’s race.

Steve Watson had another good run to finish in 17th in the same race, followed by Rob White (24th) and Jason Bennett (59th).

• The next Pavilion Gardens 5K will take place on Saturday, December 14 and will start at 9am at the Burlington Road end of Broad Walk.

Runners are reminded there is a festive theme to this particular race - the final to be staged before Christmas. Visit buxtonac.org.uk for more.
