CONSISTENT performances from Iain Robinson and Danny Butler sees them lead the way in the Expert Class of Staffordshire Moorlands Motorcycle Club’s Moorlands Championship with one round remaining.
The final round on August 6 at Manor Steps is bound to be a tight contest as Craig Robinson and Danny Greatorex, the winners of the first two rounds, are close behind.
Saturday’s second round trial belonged to Greatorex, who rode his Montesa to victory in fine style, finishing with only eight lost marks ahead of Beta-mounted Mark Reynolds, riding four laps of ten sections at Hawks Nest.
Iain Robinson, riding on home ground, missed out on the runner-up slot with a disastrous failure on the large step at section nine. Butler also failed here, together with struggling with the rock outcrops on section seven, to put him out of contention for the win.
It was a close finish for riders on the intermediate 50/50 route, with Mike King and Matt Thorpe tying for the win and couldn’t be separated even using the countback system. Danny Littlehales came home in third placed ahead of veteran Henry Rosenthal.
Pete Carson, riding his BSA Special, just kept his 1960s machine ahead of the latest equipment ridden by Kevin Stannard and David Butler. Sam Brownlee, back from a long lay-off, was fourth riding his classic Yamaha.
