A STUDENT has been crowned Girls East Midlands Collegiate Golf Champion.

Derby College’s Chloe Stokes returned a solid round of 78 over the demanding par 73 championship courses at Morley Hayes to finish two shots ahead of Rebecca Hovell, from Wigston College, on Wednesday October 12.

Chloe will now go forward to the BCS National Championships to represent the East Midlands region next spring.

Performance Golf Academy Derby programme manager Nigel Furniss said: “Chloe deserves her win. She has been working very hard on her game recently, both technically and physically, which has seen her handicap reduce form eight to four since she started the Performance Golf programme.”

The boys didn’t fair so well, with Sam Pollard from Loughborough College in first place with a 73, one shot ahead of Sam Brackenbury (Lincoln College) with 74.

The three-man team event, best two net scores to count, was won by Bilborough College.

The event hosted by the East Midlands Colleges attracted a field of 72 players and forms part of the British Colleges Golf Championship, with the top four players male and female progressing to the national finals.
