A former Buxton College student has made a great start to his future climbing career by winning a silver medal at an international climbing competition over the summer.
Ed Hamer, 19, from Bakewell, who completed a BTEC in Outdoor Adventure Sport at Buxton College in July, achieved a fantastic second place in the male juniors’ competition final of the International Federation of Sports Climbing World Youth Championships held in Austria.
This was his first podium, and the first medal for a British Climber in the competition in over 20 years.
“Coming second in the competition was fantastic – but completely unexpected. I was happy to make the final and delighted to gain a much sought-after podium place,” he said.
