Buxton’s men crushed Grove Park sixths 20-1 to record their best result of the season.

Colin Andrews went on court first and romped to a straightforward 3-0 win.

The rest of the team raced through their matches, all winning 3-0 apart from Steve Coates.

In his second game, Coates was on course for what would have been a historic 15-0 win but he made an unforced error and hit the ball out of court. Steve lost the next few points and then the next game, before getting back into the rhythm and winning his match 3-1.

The result was certainly much-needed after Buxton suffered back-to-back reverses in previous weeks.

At Sandbach they lost 3-2 before going down 4-1 at Prestbury seconds.

The Sandbach match could very easily have gone Buxton’s way.

Both Colin Andrews and Andy Williamson, who had been called up from the team below, came extremely close to winning their games only to lose out.

To stay in the race for a promotion place, this meant Buxton had to beat Prestbury’s second string.

However Steve Coates, Howard Pearson and Steve Hollick all lost out while Rick Walters fell to the same fate despite putting up a good showing.

Gary Bramwell was the only winner.

Despite the setbacks, Buxton got back on track against Grove Park and are still in the hunt for promotion with three matches left.
