Buxton scrapper Irvin scoops regional belt - without throwing a punch!

Buxton ABC boxer Irvin Magno has been awarded the prestigious title of East Midlands Elite Welterweight Champion.

Magno had battled through a difficult semi-final the previous Friday, and upon weighing in for his final, he was given the unwanted news that his opponent, Connor Parker from Swadlincote, had failed to pass the medical examination on the night due to a damaged eye.

This prevented what would have been a terrific contest and, whilst it was not the way Irvin wanted to win it, can be proud of securing a Regional Title.

Meanwhile, Buxton travelled to Grantham Gloves for Josh Taylor’s bout against Arnold ABC’s Christagie Charambolous, another challenging contest against a top class operator from Nottingham.

This was a terrific bout and highly competitive, with both lads having their own successes.

All rounds were close with both lads boxing with intensity throughout and landing with fast heavy combinations.

Charambolous took the decision on a split - a great display of boxing that ultimately benefitted both fighters.
