A record of four emphatic victories in which they scored 18 goals and conceded just one showed again that they are one of the best sides in the Midlands region in their age group.

In the first match against Matlock, the Buxton players moved the ball around confidently, looking for openings. Left-winger Dominic Cusco set up Frankie Heathcote for the opening goal and then Charlie Edwards for the second in a solid 2-0 win.

Now in the groove, Buxton quickly went on the attack in their second game against Leek and raced to a 5-0 victory thanks to two goals apiece from Edwards and Heathcote and one from Cusco.

The third match, against Derwent, was expected to present a tough challenge, with some strong physical presence. But Buxton had the athleticism and skills to play the superior hockey and enjoyed a 5-1 win, with Noah McCahill firing a quickfire hat-trick to set them on their way. Defenders Jack Hobday and Sam Langer then repelled Derwent forays with some uncompromising tackles and it took an extraordinary finish to beat goalkeeper Matthew Schofield. Order was soon restored as goals from Heathcote and Edwards rounded off the success.

For the last match, the coach’s instructions were to go one better and score six -- and that’s exactly what they did as Chesterfield were put to the sword. The marauding Hobday opened his account before Heathcote, McCahill and Cusco added to the tally as Buxton laid siege to the opponents’ goal. The day was capped by a hit from the top of the D by McCahill and a predatory finish at the back post by Cusco.
