Buxton’s first team recorded a hard-fought 4-3 win, away at Mansfield.
A much-changed Buxton handed two youngsters Schofield and Uprichard their debuts.
However, Buxton had their backs to the wall early on and went 1-0 down inside the first five minutes.
This served as a wake-up call for the Bucks though and from that moment onwards they began to attack more.
This led to them winning a short corner and from it Orritt fed Thompson, who smashed the ball into the net to level the scores up.
Buxton’s heads were now up and they had countless attempts on goal, but the Mansfield keeper remained bullish making save after save.
That resistance was broken though, just before the break when Meaton set up Sherlock and he chipped the ‘keeper with ease to send the Bucks in front.
After the break, Buxton went out looking for an early goal but ended up conceding one.
They regrouped with some hard work from Pathe and skills from Curzon, Uprichard and Schofield.
Orritt’s superb pass then picked out Talbot and he reverse-flicked over the diving ‘keeper to restore the lead.
Buxton were now well on top and Curzon made the pass which saw Sherlock turn his defender on top of the ‘D’ before hammering in an unstoppable shot.
With ten minutes left, Mansfield didn’t go down without a fight and got a quick reply.
They reduced the arrears shortly after and continued to press the Bucks, even hitting a post late on, but the hosts held on for a worthy win.
Buxton now look forward to a home double-header, against Market Harborough on Saturday (1.30pm) and Mansfield on Sunday (12pm) in the Cup.
