At the tenth time of asking, Buxton finally achieved their first win of the season after a comfortable 52-41 win over Devon at Hi-Edge.
The Hitmen saw fantastic performances from Tony Atkin and Adam Extance and a faultless 15-point maximum from skipper Liam Carr, as they sealed an 11-point wining margin.
The league points weren’t fully secured however, until Tom Woolley’s success in heat 14.
Team boss Jayne Moss commented afterwards, saying despite the tense finish she was always confident of victory.
She said: “It kept it exciting until the end, but I don’t think the result was ever in doubt.”
Extance in particular stole the show, notching three wins in his 13-point tally.
He said: “I’ve had such a good meeting. Everything came together today and I’d like to thank everyone who has helped me get here.”
Devon’s cause wasn’t helped by the non-arrival of their number one Tim Webster and the absence through injury of James Shanes.
However their guest Brendan Johnson top-scored including a heat 10 victory on a tactical ride that kept it close until the latter heats.
Despite being kept close by Devon, the hosts’ solid team performance finally paid dividends.
There were no less than four maximum heat victories for the Hitmen on their way to victory.
Next up for Buxton is the National League fours meeting at Coventry next Sunday (August 10).
