Buxton AC members start 2015 on a high

Buxton AC runners have been busy in the early throes of 2015.

New Year’s Eve saw Buxton AC members turn out in force for the popular Bowstones fell race in Poynton.

Out of 368 runners, Jo Bednall finished as seventh-quickest female while the first male finisher for the club was Richard Bouglas in 90th, followed by Ross Martland (105th), Peter Bailey (118th), Roland Meylan (139th), Aleks Kashefi (165th), Dave Forshaw (186th), Andrew Wearden (194th) and Kevin Mottram (215th).

The following morning, four Buxton runners began the new year with a double-bill of 5K racing, tackling both the Lyme Park and Marple Parkruns just an hour and a half apart.

Continuing his run of form, Ben Light posted third place in both races, with times of 20.00 on the hilly Lyme Park course and an impressive 18.56 at Marple.

Other members who completed the double were Alfie Bailey, Aleks Kashefi and Peter Bailey.

Richard Bouglas was in action at Saturday’s Lyme Park race, setting a new PB of 22.10 for the course and finishing in 11th place.

He was followed by Ross Martland who finished in 16th place.

Other Parkrun action saw Jennifer Johnson finish sixth out of 50 females at the Wythenshawe race.

At Derbyshire’s Peat Pit Woods race, Louis Forshaw-Perring took a fine seventh place.

Also representing the club were Mark Halsey (30th), David Forshaw (47th) and Helen Brunt (11th female).

• Meanwhile, this Saturday sees the first Pavilion Gardens 5K of the year.

This friendly, monthly event is open to all and newcomers can choose to complete one,two or all three laps.
