Buxton AC celebrate London Olympics with 2012-metre dash

THIRTY-THREE runners competed in Buxton Athletic Club’s ‘2012 metre’ race around the Pavilion Gardens last week to celebrate the London Olympics.

First home was Rob White in a cracking time of six minutes and 28 seconds, followed by Steve Watson (06:48) and Andrew McMaster (07:03).

For the ladies, first home was Emma Wentworth (08:30), ahead of Bev Golden (08:31) and Sheila Bradley (08:34).

Leading the junior boys home was Will Tighe (07:45), ahead of Daniel Burt (08:23) and James Watson (08:46). The first junior girl home was Danielle Watson (08:47), from Heather Wilshaw (10:25) and Lauren Wilshaw (10:35).

At the hilly Great Warford ten-mile road race, and from a sizeable field of 345 runners, Rob White was placed 46th in a time of 01:03:58, while Jon Sewell was 70th in 01:06:09.

Rob and Jon were in action again in the 5.3-mile Stoney Middleton fell race. Rob finished seventh in a time of 36:06 and Jon was 26th in 40:24. Some 111 runners took part.

Meanwhile, local running hero Andy Wilton returned to winning form by claiming first place in the Marple 5K Parkrun, with a time of 17 minutes and 48 seconds.

Club members are invited to take part in the local Taddington Lanes four-mile race on Tuesday August 21. The race starts on Main Street at 7pm.
