Three members of High Peak Triathlon Club recently headed to Austria to compete in the Age Group European Championships.
Following qualification in early season races, Jo Baker, Trish Justin and David Davidson were included in a large GB team that flew out to compete in Kitzbuhel.
The event proved to be hugely challenging for competitors although it started with surprisingly warm conditions for the 1500m swim.
That was followed by a 40km bike ride that took competitors on an alpine route away from the lake and up into the surrounding mountains, climbing a total of almost 800 metres.
The final 10km run leg was equally scenic as it wound up and around the lower wooded slopes of the lake.
Fortunately the weather was perfect and although proving a tough challenge, it was declared by many to be the best event on the race calendar to date this year.
Baker, of Whaley Bridge, just missed out on a medal as she finished fourth in her age group with a time of three hours, eight minutes.
Justin, of Hayfield, secured 11th spot in three hours, three minutes and Great Longstone’s Davidson finished tenth with a sub-three hour time of two hours, 56 minutes.
