Annual Good Friday event attracts sizeable field

Buxton Cycling Club’s traditional Good Friday Mountain Time Trial, based at Longnor, was contested by a big field of 145 riders.

Warm sunshine greeted the riders as women, juniors and the over-40 veterans’ sections completed two laps of 22 miles, while the men competed over three laps totalling 33 miles.

The final results were close, with Matt Clinton (1:23:25) beating Tejvan Pettinger (1:23:27) by a meagre two seconds in the men’s race.

In the women’s event, Katie Archibald won in 1:00:02 with a 32-second winning margin over team-mate and Paralympic gold medallist Sarah Storey, while Joanna Rowsell finished in third.

The winner in the veterans’ race was Julian Ramsbottom (Pedal Pushers) after a time of 56:58

James Falconer (Ferryhill Whs/Mountain High) finished the course in 58:10 to finish first in the juniors section.
