High Peak veteran triathlete Alec Horn is putting the finishing touches towards his training schedule as he prepares to compete in the World Age Group Triathlon Championships later today.

The 71-year-old, from Castleton, will be testing his skills in the pool, on the bike and on foot as the relentless event, this year held in London, brings together the cream of the sporting crop from around the world.

Alec qualified for the World Championships after finishing second in the British Age Group championships in Liverpool back in July.

It is not the first time he has entered the event; in 1997 he finished fifth in his respective age group.

Alec will be competing in the 70-74 category among a field of 40, with nine different countries set to be represented.

He is due to start at approximately 11am this morning (Friday).
