Last Sunday saw Buxton AC make a club outing to The Great North West Half Marathon in Blackpool.

The event saw over 1,200 competitors complete the two-lap course along Blackpool’s promenades.

Despite the horrendous conditions 21 Buxton runners took part, with the performance of the day going to Jason Bennett who finished in a time of 1.21.13 to take a very creditable 17th place.

First female finisher for the club was Emma Wentworth, in a time of 1.36.50, claiming the third Vet-35 prize.

Also in the prizes were Sheila Bradley in 1.46.41 (Second Vet-55) and Cristine Milton in 1.55.28 (First Vet-60).

Second and third place finishers for the club were Daniel Feely in 1.37.15 and Mark Halsey in 1.37.49 respectively.

Meanwhile, five club members made this event their debut at the distance.

Andrew Wearden (1.45.25), Jen Johnson (1.48.14), Heather Fryer-Winder (2.07.58), Pavla Metherington (2.18.45) and Clare Merrick (2.18.46) all impressed during their maiden half-marathon.

Elsewhere, Rachel Chatwin completed the muddy Marple 5K Parkrun in a time of 20.50 (Third female) before then finishing fifth overall at the Lostock six-mile race in Bolton 24 hours later.

Kate and Stefan Ledin travelled to Parliament Hill in London to compete at the National Cross Country Championships.
