Buxton 1st XI 4, Nuneaton 1st XI 1
A FIRST-EVER hat-trick by J Wilton helped Buxton record another convincing victory.
Buxton started the game briskly and soon took the lead, Wilton exchanged passes with Browett before slotting under the approaching goalkeeper. He blasted home his second from just inside the “D” after Curzon picked him out from a short corner.
Wilton and D Pathe bossed things in midfield while Saunders caused mayhem on the right wing.
Nuneaton came back strongly and pulled a goal back just before half-time from a short corner.
Buxton rearranged things at the interval, B Meaton coming on for Bedworth to strengthen up the defence and J Meaton providing added pace on the wing.
Orritt missed a gilt-edged chance as he put it wide of an open goal from two yards out, while Mather, Lomas and Griffin worked hard to keep the Nuneaton forwards at bay.
The decisive third goal for Buxton came from Wilton’s stick, powering in another short corner.
Thyer pulled off a great one-handed save to maintain the two-goal advantage, before the returning Lowton, back in the team following a year-long lay-off, set-up Saunders to wrap up a fine victory, which the club dedicated to ex-player Bob Johnson who sadly passed away recently.
