Ex-Forest midfielder joins Buxton

Buxton FC has signed ex-Nottingham Forest and Hibernian midfielder Matt Thornhill.

The 24-year-old joins the Bucks ahead of Saturday’s league clash with Kendal Town, and will also be eligible to play in the eagerly-awaited FA Trophy tie at Grimsby Town the following weekend.

Thornhill scored five goals in 38 appearances for Forest during his time at the City Ground, and was part of the side which gained promotion to the Championship in 2008.

He joined Hibs in January 2011, but made only 15 appearances during a year-long stay plagued by injury.

Prior to joining Hibs, he also spent time on loan at Brighton & Hove Albion and Cheltenham Town.

There was more good news for Bucks boss Martin McIntosh this week with both Sam Duncum and Steve Brooker back in training following injury. Kyle Nix, however, is still weeks away from a full comeback despite a return to light training.
