HIGH Peak fighter Eric Ham has won a hat-trick of British junior judo titles.
Ham, from Hadfield, won the under-15 title aged 13 and the under-17 title last year and again this year, now aged 15.
And the Hillcrest Grammar School pupil, who has developed under the wing of his father Geoff at Glossop Judo Club, has his sights set on Olympic glory.
“I have developed a lot over the last three years and feel I have a chance to make the Olympics, not in Rio, that would be too soon, but hopefully in 2020,” he said.
“Great Britain won two Olympic Judo medals this year and two in the Paralympics; so there is room for improvement in the sport, though the powerhouses remain in Japan and eastern Europe.
“I am ambitious but my goals are a long way off and the competition is going to get tougher from here on in.”
Ham is the current High Peak Junior Sportsman of the Year, winning the title for four consecutive years, and travels across Britain and Europe to top meetings to test his mettle against the very best.
