NEW MILLS Cricket Club is the proud new holders of the coveted 1st XI Bissenden Cup after upsetting 2010 winners Tintwistle in Sunday’s final.
The Millers, currently top of Division Two of the Peak Sports Derbyshire & Cheshire League, saw off their Division One opponents by 35 runs.
Batting first, New Mills made 209-8 off their 40 overs. Following the early dismissals of Alistair Stevens (0) and Ashley Burgess (4), Stefan Fielding (90) steadied the ship, supported by Malcolm Strong (29), Stuart Whitchurch (25) and Callum Firth (20).
Burgess then took 4-44, including the wickets of Matthew Robinson (49), Peter Higginbottom (32) and Simon Barrow (24), to help dismiss Tintwistle for 174.
