BUXTON’S Sarah Lomas has lifted the under-16 girls’ title in the National Trophy Cyclo-Cross Series.
Trailing in third place heading into the sixth and final round at Sundorne Sports Village in Shrewsbury on Sunday, Lomas shrugged off a hand injury to finish second on the day, just two seconds behind the winner, which was enough to see her top the series standings by three points.
The 14-year-old Buxton Community School student, in her first year competing in the under-16 girls’ category, had won the previous round in December at Bradford in extremely muddy conditions.
Lomas, who rides for Matlock Cycling Club, has also secured the Notts & Derby Cyclo-Cross League U16 Girls title after winning ten out of a possible 11 races.
At the end of a busy winter season, Lomas is now looking forward to the forthcoming mountain bike season.
