A HARTINGTON woman is helping to promote this year’s Derbyshire Dales Sports Awards.

Liz Broomhead MBE, who was awarded the Service to Sport accolade in 2008, is encouraging nominations of people living in the Derbyshire Dales area who have achieved success in the past year as a player, coach or administrator.

Former Derbyshire and England netball coach Liz said: “Volunteers do what they do because they love people and want to share positive experiences. Please show them how much you value and love them by nominating the one you know for the Derbyshire Dales District Council Sports Awards. Volunteers aren’t paid but they are priceless.”

Liz was joined at the launch by Matlock’s Sam Mak, who picked up Derbyshire Dales District Council’s Junior Sportsman of the Year award in 2010.

Eleven awards are to be given out this year, including awards for performance, volunteering in sport, for clubs and teams or as a young sports leader. There is also an opportunity to celebrate the Unsung Hero of Sport (Service to Sport), which is for someone who has made a significant voluntary contribution to sport as an administrator or official over a minimum of five years.

Nomination forms are available from Derbyshire Dales District Council’s Sports Development Team on 01629 761225 or can be completed online at www.derbyshiredales.gov.uk/sportsawards.

The deadline for nominations is Friday August 19.
