Tideswell Utd 3 Brampton 1

Tideswell Utd hosted an in-form Brampton side at Pursglove with Utd running out victors to keep their hopes of a top four place alive.

The visitors started the brighter with good possession as Utd gave the ball away too often. Liam Stuart came closest to opening the scoring as he flashed his free-kick wide of the post. On 20 minutes Brampton deservedly took the lead after Utd conceded a soft corner kick, Zach Law heading home.

The home side did start to make in-roads into the Brampton half but Steve Shippam remained a spectator in the visitor’s goal.

Five minutes before the interval Utd earned a lifeline as Paul Sullivan delivered a deep corner kick which Ant Roberts headed home.

Utd started the second period the brighter with Matt Roberts and Fraser Bloor dominant in the centre of the field.

Within minutes the home side went in front as Stuart Baker delivered a long free-kick which Rick Whyatt spectacularly volleyed home to raise the roof.

Utd were now moving the ball much better and it was no surprise when Swanson broke down the right. His pinpoint cross saw Whyatt fire first time past Shippam to give Utd a two-goal advantage.

Whyatt almost completed his hat-trick but his strike flashed over the crossbar and at the other end, Stanway saved well to deny the visitors. Brampton continued to battle on and Utd twice cleared off the line through Ryan Paisley and then Colin Moss.
