Leading Manchester United players from the 1980s and 1990s will be appearing in Buxton next month for a special Father’s Day match.
Players who will make up the Manchester United Legends football team will be chosen from a pool depending on who is available on the day of the match, which will see the Red Devils heroes pitted against a special Buxton 11 side.
The game is taking place on Sunday June 16, kick off 2pm, at Buxton FC’s Silverlands ground and the pool of players from which the squad will be chosen is: Mike Duxbury, Frank Stapleton, Arthur Albiston, Denis Irwin, Sammy McIlroy, Mike Thomas, Andy Ritchie, Peter Davenport, Peter Barnes, David May, Fraser Digby, Clayton Blackmore, Lee Martin, Ben Thornley, Russell Beardsmore and Deiniol Graham.
The Buxton 11 side will be captained for the day by current Buxton FC manager Martin McIntosh.
Club Director Chris Brindley said of the squad list: “It’s like a who’s who of Manchester United in the 80s and 90s.
“There are many hundreds of United appearances amongst that list and a whole bundle of international caps.”
Tickets for the match, sponsored by Lomas Distribution, Buxton and Leek College, Lafarge Tarmac Cement and Lime Division and New Bodies Gym, are available now, priced at £12.50 or £35 for a family ticket (two adults, two children).
