For the first time, Whaley Bridge AFC’s senior team starts the new season in the Cheshire Football League Division Two, meaning trips to the likes of Whitchurch, Warrington and Runcorn. The reserve team will remain in the Hope Valley League.
Several new singings have joined last year’s outstanding team, as Whaley test themselves in a higher division.
A club spokesman said: “Following last season’s ground improvements and record-breaking results, Whaley are ambitious to move forward and all at the club is excited about the new venture.”
Whaley’s opponents in their opening home game on Saturday are Maine Road Reserves, who finished bottom last season. The match kicks-off at 3pm.
The following Wednesday, Whaley entertain Sandbach United (kick-off 6.30pm).
