NEW MILLS AFC crashed out of the FA Trophy on their debut in the competition on Saturday.
The Millers lost 3-2 in the Preliminary Round to Radcliffe Borough, despite twice taking the lead against the struggling Evo-Stik First Division North side.
In front of a crowd of 151 at Church Lane, Leon Grandison had given New Mills an early lead. Radcliffe equalised from the penalty spot through David Sherlock, but Kristian Cox restored the Millers’ one-goal advantage just before the break.
But following a red card for Luke Horrocks, the Millers conceded twice in the final 15 minutes - the goals coming from Shaun Connor and Ben Wharton - to exit the competition at the first hurdle.
Meanwhile, in the Evo-Stik Premier Division, Buxton FC played out a goalless stalemate at Kendal Town on Saturday, with new signing, centre-half Louis Horne, making his debut for the Bucks.
There was no shortage of goals, however, in Glossop North End’s 5-2 win at St Helens Town in the North West Counties League Premier Division. Goals from Alex Elliot, Sam Hind, Darren Hamilton and two from Jay Gorton settled it for Glossop, who now sit three points behind the leaders with three games in hand.
