BUXTON moved to within one point of Evo-Stik Premier Division safety with a 3-1 win at fellow strugglers Chasetown on Saturday.
Goals from Steve Istead, Marc Roberts and Bradley Barraclough were enough to secure the Bucks their fourth win in five matches, with Courtney Pitt on the scoresheet for the hosts.
This result, coupled with wins for Whitby Town and Mickleover Sports and defeats for Frickley Athletic and Stocksbridge Park Steels, means just four points separate six of the seven teams at the bottom of the Evo-Stik Premier Division.
The Bucks next travel to Mickleover on Wednesday night (kick-off 7.45pm).
In the First Division South, New Mills AFC closed the gap between themselves and the playoffs to just four points with a 3-2 victory over Rainworth Miners Welfare at Church Lane.
Two first-half goals from Carlos Meakin, the first from the penalty spot, had given the Millers the lead. Rainworth hit back each time through Niall O’Rafferty and Ryan Goward, before Leon Grandison netted the winner with 20 minutes to play.
Tonight (Monday), New Mills entertain Derbyshire neighbours Belper Town (kick-off 7.45pm).
A second-half Alex Elliot goal at Squires Gate secured Glossop North End their first win in three matches in the North West Counties League Premier Division, while in the Cheshire League Whaley Bridge won the battle of the top two after defeating Division Two leaders Crewe 2-1.
