WEEKEND RESULTS: Burscough 1, Buxton FC 2; Carlton Town 1, New Mills AFC 1; Glossop North End 2, Ashton Athletic 1

MARTIN McIntosh celebrated his first league win as Buxton FC manager on Saturday after his side’s 2-1 victory over basement side Burscough.

Bradley Barraclough and Peter Davidson struck in the second half to secure the Bucks their first Evo-Stik Premier Division win since mid-December, with Phillip Clarke replying for the hosts from the penalty spot shortly before full-time.

The result saw Buxton close the gap between themselves and Premier Division safety to just six points, with games in hand over the teams above them.

In the First Division South, New Mills AFC held promotion-chasing Carlton Town to a 1-1 draw on their own turf.

Carlos Meakin put the visitors ahead after 17 minutes, but Joe Naylor equalised midway through the second half for Carlton.

Glossop North End kept their promotion push alive in the North West Counties League Premier Division with a 2-1 win over Ashton Athletic at Surrey Street.

Jason Gorton and Sam Hind netted the Hillmen’s goals, with Daniel Smith replying for the visitors.

Both New Mills and Glossop are in midweek league action. On Tuesday, the Millers travel to Kidsgrove Athletic (kick-off 7.45pm), while the Hillmen travel to fellow promotion chasers Barnoldswick Town (kick-off 8pm).
