BUXTON FC’s Evo-Stik League Premier Division fixture at Whitby Town has been postponed due to a waterlogged pitch.
Martin McIntosh’s men were due to face the Mariners at the Turnbull Ground this afternoon (Saturday), but the game will now be played later in the season.
Buxton Chairman Tony Tomlinson said: “We are disappointed that the game at Whitby is off, so for the second time in three years we are facing a midweek game up there, with all the logistical problems that come with it.”
The Bucks will be hoping for better luck with the weather on Boxing Day when they are due to host Stocksbridge Park Steels at the Silverlands, followed three days later by Hednesford Town on Saturday December 29.
Buxton then make the trip to Derbyshire neighbours Matlock Town on New Year’s Day.
All matches kick-off at 3pm.
* Buxton FC is appealing for volunteers to assist groundstaff to prepare the Silverlands pitch in between the games against Stocksbridge and Hednesford.
Tomlinson said: “The work will be mainly treading divots, so no previous experience is required. Just turn up with old shoes and a garden fork!”
Volunteers are asked to turn up at the ground during working hours on December 27 and December 28, or on the morning of December 29.
