BUXTON FC Bluestar U19s entertain Blidworth Welfare at the Silverlands tonight (Thursday, kick-off 7.45pm).
The young Bucks will be aiming to build on last week’s trip to Maltby Main, when they turned around a woeful first-half display and a two-goal deficit to take the points.
Maltby led on 19 minutes when Buxton keeper Backhouse misjudged a deep free-kick, which bounced back off the bar and was finished from close range. The hosts doubled their lead soon after with a crisp low finish into the corner from an unmarked position outside the box.
With 55 minutes played, Buxton reduced the deficit when Fletcher finished well past the keeper after a well-saved Swain shot had been deflected.
The visitors drew level 15 minutes later courtesy of an own goal, after persistence from Bradbury, and further pressure resulted in a neat pass being slid through by Ballington to the galloping Hopkins, who made no mistake at the near post.
Unconvincing Buxton defending allowed Maltby to draw level, but with only ten minutes remaining Buxton re-took the lead when the hard-working Swain anticipated well from a slack backpass, cooly collected and rounded the keeper.
Buxton: Backhouse, Stenson, Clarke, Owen, Johnson, Swain, Heywood, Vize (c) (Hall 45), French (Hopkins 45), Bradbury, Fletcher (Ballington 62). Unused subs: Higginbottom, Twyford.
