Stalemate for Millers at Congleton

Have your say

Congleton Town 0, New Mills 0

NEW MILLS’ second pre-season workout ended in stalemate at Booth Street on Saturday.

The Millers had the best of what few chances there were, and probably the best opportunity in the entire game fell their way in the 12th minute.

Good link-up play around the edge of the area eventually saw Harry Noon cross the ball to Justin Pickering, whose close-range stooping header was well-saved by the ever-reliable Matt Conkie.

A whole host of substitutions after the interval saw the game lose its momentum, but two late efforts could have secured the win for New Mills.

Firstly Carlos Meakin’s free-kick was well saved by Congleton’s reserve keeper with Ross Needham only able to hit the side netting with the rebound.

Shortly after Kristian Cox narrowly flashed a shot past the far post, but ultimately the game remained goalless in what proved to be another useful exercise for both sets of players.

New Mills starting XI: Coates, Armstrong, Brackenbridge, Bowler, Chadwick, Pickering, Meakin, Young, Noon, Grandison, Lonsdale.
