Stalemate for Hillmen on travels

Alsager Town 0, Glossop North End 0

GLOSSOP were left to consider what might have been after Tuesday evening’s stalemate at Alsager Town.

The Hillmen began well, but despite swinging in a number of dangerous-looking crosses the goal was never really threatened.

Alsager fought their way back into the match, playing well through the midfield, but likewise never threatened Ben Proctor in the Glossop net, as the first half ended goalless.

The only significant goal threat came in the 74th minute as Alsager’s Antony Marshall just failed to connect with a deep cross from the right-hand side with the goal at his mercy.

A match containing a few hard tackles but no great controversy burst into life in the final ten minutes. A deliberate handball outside the penalty area by Alsager goalkeeper Ryan Moss led to a lenient yellow card and a free-kick to the Hillmen.

The remaining minutes became somewhat frantic as both sides searched for that elusive winning goal.

Glossop thought they had scored it when, deep into added time, Sensale drifted between the two Alsager central defenders to head the ball into the back of the net past the stranded Moss, only for the assistant referee to flag for offside.

Glossop: Proctor, L. McGregor, Allen, Dickinson (c), Birch (Lugsden), Smallwood, Heaton (D. McGregor), Oakes, Marshall (Elliott), Sensale, Connolly. Subs not used: Browne, Thompson. Attendance: 105.
