BUXTON FC’s squad for the new season has been bolstered by six more players signing Evo-Stik forms for the Premier Division club.

Five of the players to put pen to paper following Saturday’s 2-0 defeat by Stockport County are new to the Silverlands, as manager John Reed continues his pre-season squad-building ahead of the start of the new league season in just 16 days’ time.

The new players include 24-year-old Kyle Hadley, who had spells last season with Harrogate Town, Belper and North Ferriby United, now being based at Doncaster; David Taylor, 18, a midfielder released by Barnsley; Brandon Cardwell, 18, a six-foot tall centre-back released by Leeds United; 19-year-old Jack Cross, a midfielder recruited from NCEL side Winterton Rangers; and Charlie Johnson, 17, the brother of Sam Johnson, from Harpur Hill FC.

Young left back Johnson was deemed to have acquitted himself well against the accomplished Sean McConville in the second half of Saturday’s clash with the Hatters.

The one returning Silverlander is ex-Sheffield Wednesday centre-back Sam Liversidge.

In other team news, ex-Doncaster Rovers centre-back Andrew Turner, one of Reed’s trialists, has now opted for a career in the USA, while the popular 19-year-old James Askey has departed for Evo-Stik Division One South side Newcastle Town.

Askey made only 22 appearances for the Bucks last season – 14 as a substitute.

Buxton chairman Tony Tomlinson said: “We can understand James’ frustration at being unsure of securing a regular starting place, but throughout his 12 months with us he has shown the utmost commitment, dedication and professionalism. We wish him well for the future.”

Reed fielded a mixed team of senior and under-19 players in last night’s (Thursday) High Peak Cup semi-final at Chapel Town, which the Bucks won 4-1. They will now host Glossop North End in the final on Wednesday August 3 (kick-off 7.45pm at the Silverlands).

Before that, on Saturday, the manager returns to one of his old clubs when the Bucks visit Stalybridge Celtic (kick-off 3pm), and the following Tuesday August 2 (kick-off 7.45pm), the Silverlands side travels to face Sheffield FC (kick-off 7.45pm).

* An early-season fixture change sees the Evo-Stik League Premier Division clash between Buxton and Rushall Olympic at the Silverlands taking place on Tuesday August 23 instead of Wednesday August 24.
