Cheshire League Division Two: Whaley Bridge 5, Poynton 0
WHALEY’S sixth successive league win moved them into second place in Division Two.
The hosts got off to the perfect start when Lee Morris volleyed home after only four minutes. Against the run of play, Poynton were awarded a penalty on 37 minutes but James Tattersall saved superbly.
On 44 minutes, Bill Sutton showed how to take a penalty and Whaley comfortably led 2-0 at the break.
Two minutes after the restart, a brilliant move saw Lee Morris sweep in a perfect pass, finding Ric Forder who controlled the ball and slid it under the keeper. After 55 minutes, Sutton scored from the spot with a low shot into the corner.
Whaley went 5-0 up on 72 minutes with a perfectly executed training ground move. Sutton’s corner was aimed at Mick Ryan who hooked the ball goal-wards through a mass of defenders.
Shortly after, the referee suffered a serious leg injury and was unable to continue. Sufficient time having been played, the scoreline stood.
Whaley travel to Malpas on Saturday.
