Silverlands stalemate for Under-19s

BUXTON Under-19s maintained their unbeaten start to the league campaign with a 2-2 draw against Basford at the Silverlands on Tuesday evening.

Basford took the lead against the run of play on 13 minutes after mistakes and some misfortune in the Buxton defence.

The home side immediately responded, with John Ballington whipping a dangerous corner into the box for Alex Airey to head home the equaliser.

The second half began as the first left off, with Buxton pushing forward but again falling behind following some careless defensive play, with a curling left-foot shot past Stanway. Airey and Jack Barton were then both denied by outstanding saves from the Basford keeper.

Airey and Bridge left the field to be replaced by Higginbottom and Gipu Felix-George, and the change paid immediate dividends as the pair linked well on the edge of the area before drawing a free-kick from the Basford defence. Barton stepped up and rifled the ball over the Basford wall into the top corner.

Both teams battled on for the win, but neither could create the match-winning third goal.

Buxton U19s next entertain Carlton Town at the Silverlands on Tuesday November 6 (kick-off 7.45pm).
