BUXTON FC’s pre-season programme continues with visits by two Sheffield club.
This afternoon (Saturday), Division One South side Sheffield FC (kick-off 3pm) provide the opposition for Martin McIntosh’s men at the Silverlands.
Play-off finalists last spring, the Dronfield-based club is managed by celebrated boxer and former Football League player Curtis Woodhouse, who has made a number of promising summer signings.
Then next Wednesday August 1, newly-promoted Sheffield Wednesday will be the visitors. For both matches, admission is £4 for adults and £2 for concessions.
* Former Buxton manager John Reed has signed three more ex-Silverlanders for Goole FC to take the contingent to nine.
Joining Sam Liversidge, Scott Hartley, David Taylor, Martin Pembleton, Chris Ovington and Jack Cross now are midfielder Greg Moseley, young goalkeeper Ryan Pugh and crowd favourite Tommy Agus.
McIntosh is understood to have originally hoped to retain Agus, who has made over 300 appearances for the Bucks during three spells at the club, but the versatile defender informed him that he would be unavailable for a month early in the season.
* Bucks chairman Tony Tomlinson appealed for extra support and help for the club.
He said: “There was a good attendance for Saturday’s match but many were County fans so I would appeal to our supporters to come and have an early look at the exciting team Martin McIntosh is putting together.
“What’s more, we are still recovering financially from last winter and look to the pre-season period to get us off to a good start.
“We also need to recruit several volunteers to help on match-days in the canteen, so anyone interested in cooking or serving should ring secretary Don Roberts on 07967 822448 or director Mark Shenton on 07805 534143.”
He added: “Also, if any of our supporters have a few hours to spend on the club’s behalf, there are still some outstanding jobs at the Silverlands to help with. Please give some time if you can.”
* Buxton FC’s annual Golf Day is scheduled for Friday August 10 by kind permission of Buxton & High Peak Golf Club. Rounds are still available for teams of four.
* Places are still available at Buxton Football Club’s summer camps - now at a reduced rate of £40 for the full week.
The camps, for boys and girls aged five to 14, are taking place between Monday and Friday throughout the summer at Harpur Hill Primary School, from 9am and 4pm, with one day per week at The Silverlands.
