Following seven successive victories, New Mills Reserves failed to reach The Divisional Cup Semi Final after a single-goal defeat against a young Silsden side.

The team had prolonged their recent undefeated sequence with a narrow 3-2 North West Counties League (NWCFL) victory over Irlam last Wednesday evening with goals from Robbie Robertson, Danny Johnson, from the spot, and substitute Stefan Nielsen.

In Saturday’s cup encounter, The Millers played some decent football but simply couldn’t put any of their chances away with Nick Wood’s effort against the inside of the post the closest they came in the first half.

The team paid the ultimate penalty in the opening minute of the second half when they were caught napping by a quick Silsden attack and striker Wade nipped onto a low centre to beat James Taylor.

l The Reserves have a quick opportunity to gain revenge over Silsden as Rick Adrio’s side travel over to Yorkshire on Saturday for a NWCFL fixture. Then on Monday, they face Padiham at Church Lane. Both games kick-off at 3pm.
